Propellerhead has released Reason Compact and Reason 10.4, offering new ways to make music.
The guys and girls of Propellerhead worked hard to solve the performance issues of Reason. Although the focus was on VST performance Reason 10.3 in general now runs better and smoother than ever.
I decided to test the random LFO modes of Propellerhead Reason devices. Random LFO offers a great way to add analog irregularities to a signal, modulating a synth parameter randomly or applying it to an effect.
Europa by Reason is a waveshaper synth, it can change the shape of the wave/oscillator. And by changing the waveshape you’re actually changing the harmonics. Europa is not only a great sounding synth it is also a great analytics tool for learning about harmonics, shaping a waveform.
Back in the day, I was asked by Propellerhead to design patches for Reason. The Props needed many patches for the Factory Sound Bank and one of the most important type of sounds the Props wanted us sound designers to program was what we call Bread & Butter sounds.
