Todd Rundgren talks about using Reason live

If you’re a songwriter I guess you will fall in love with the music of Todd Rundgren at some point. At least, I did. I have heard Todd play live several times. Last time was a month ago in Amsterdam at the Paradiso. He used a large touchscreen running Windows with Reason on it. Even running his guitar through it.

In a recent conversation with Mark Powell of Esoteric Recordings Todd talks about these things, but also about the big chances which are happening in the music business. I agree with Todd on those things, like that stupid RIAA and record companies for attacking their own customers for downloading mp3 files. And not being as creative as you would expect from “the creative industry”. All innovation these days comes from IT companies instead of the old music industry guys. They are old and they are dying. So unlike how Todd is doing. Sit back and watch this for 60 minutes, it’s great:

I’m perplexed that Propellerhead has never reached out to Todd (that i’ve seen or heard of), interviewed him for the blog, or put him on their artist user page. He’s constantly talking about using Reason and keeping things ITB. As far as i know, he has been using Reason as his only DAW for at least the last 10 years. The guy is a creative genius. I wish someone (you could do it, Marco!) would come up with a TODD REFILL – featuring his synth and guitar sounds thru the years.

Yes me too! I mentioned this on the Props forum many times. Maybe I can interview Todd one day when he’s here in the Netherlands. I have seen him perform overhere a couple of times.

A Todd ReFill … I think Todd should do one. I can help of course 🙂
