The singing comet

Yesterday’s big news of the European space probe Rosetta landing on Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko got a musical encore: it seems to be singing!

When measuring and recording signals in the 40-50 milli hertz frequency (read: that’s a super low frequency which is not audible to humans), scientists discovered a rhythmic pattern in the signal. To make these low frequencies audible it was increased by a factor of 10,000.
