The Hermit of Mink Hollow Road

It all comes from somewhere and it all happens at a certain moment in time someplace, somewhere. It was happening when when Miles Davis was recording Kind of Blue at Columbia’s 30th Street Studio in New York City. It was happening when Donald Fagen was recording the Nightfly at Soundworks Digital Audio/Video Recording Studios and Automated Sound in New York City, and at Village Recorders in Los Angeles. It was happening when The Beatles were recording Revolver at Abbey Road in London.

Hello it’s me, the hermit of 29 years old. The hermit of the studio of Mink Hollow Road, Woodstock, New York. My longterm relationship has just ended and so I started to write and record these personal and yet universal songs. I am on my own, I do the writing, the recording, the whole production. I hit record and play my parts ’till it feels right.

Here in my isolated room I turn down the lights, pull up the faders of the mixing desk and close my eyes. I am surrounded by sound waves, my dear sound waves. I have the control room upstairs and the drums downstairs, so when trying to record drums, if I make a mistake, I need to run up and down the stairs just to rewind the machine. But I’m not complaining because things are happening here in this place, this sacred place, my utopia. I’m healing myself with my songs.

And I believe it’s happening to me as well.
