My new song ‘Terug in Den Haag’ is based on the famous text by Louis Couperus ‘Een Hagenaar terug in Den Haag’. The song was intended for the ‘Haagse Songfestival’ but that was canceled due to the corona crisis, which is why I decided to release the song today.
The song contains the special story of Dutch writer Louis Couperus, how he escaped the First World War by returning from Italy to his hometown The Hague. Couperus, according to his own words, was the vagabond but his birth cradle stood in The Hague. He started the text ‘Een Hagenaar terug in Den Haag’ with the well-known opening line: “Zoo ik iets ben, ben ik een Hagenaar.” Couperus was one of the first to draw attention to The Hague’s identity. I hope I am doing the same thing.
I sing in Dutch. All instruments are played by me. It was recorded, mixed and mastered in Reason 11.
