Quantum mechanics for guitar players: NINT Quantum Clipping Overdrive Prototype

A completely different approach on creating overdriven effects using electronics was invented at the University of Alberta, Canada, in partnership with the National Institute for Nanotechnology. This state-of-the-art technology is the first practical use ever (!) of a new generation of electronics: molecular electronics. We guitar players are the first who can use this new technology because the first practical use is a guitar pedal.

And it sounds really cool! Less harsh and way more tube-like than traditional diodes!

This work was supported by the University of Alberta and the National Institute for Nanotechnology, which is operated as a partnership between the University of Alberta, the National Research Council Canada, and the Government of Alberta.
