Browser as instrument: Patatap

The browser can be used as a musical instrument, as a DAW, as an effects unit and so on. It’s just a matter of generating and processing audio by using javascript, HTML and CSS code. It opens a totally new world ’cause:

  • you can include sounds from like YouTube, SoundCloud etc.
  • you can use live input from a webcam or other input
  • you can turn words into music
  • you can connect a real MIDI-keyboard to the browser (thanks to the Web MIDI API)
  • etc.

One cool example I found recently is Patatap.com

(thanks Carolien!)
